Obituary for David G. Aldrich

David G. Aldrich
1935-2016

Seneca Falls - David G. Aldrich, 81 of Troy Street, Seneca Falls, New York passed away at his residence with his family at his side on Sunday (June 19, 2016).

In keeping with David’s wishes, there be no calling hours. Family and friends may attend his Memorial Mass on Friday (June 24) at 10 AM at St. Patrick’s Church, 97 W. Bayard Street, Seneca Falls, NY. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in Sampson Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Route 96A, Town of Romulus, NY. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Lifetime Care Hospice, 800 West Miller St., Suite #6, Newark, NY 14513.

David was born on May 17, 1935 in Savannah, New York, where he lived with his family until the age of 18 when he was drafted into the United States Army in 1953. He served during active duty in the Korean War and finished his tour of duty in Alaska, later enlisting in the National Guard in Geneva serving from 1976 through 1982.

Prior to being drafted into the military David had already begun his lengthy and successful career with GTE Sylvania at the age of 17. When the decision was made to move its headquarters from Seneca Falls to Ann Arbor Michigan David was assigned the task of taking charge of the move and relocation of the plant as well as many of the employees that went with the move. He retired from GTE/North American Philips as Plant Manager in 1989. While working for GTE Sylvania David was a member of the Quarter Century Club serving as President for several years. He often spoke of how privileged he was to have known and worked with more than 3,500 employees who came through the plant during his years of employment.

After a short retirement he was hired as “Clerk to the Works” from 1989-1991 overseeing and completing the renovation of the New York Chiropractic College formerly known as Eisenhower College. He was then recruited by Seneca County to oversee the renovation and construction of a new 20’ addition to the Seneca County Courthouse in Waterloo, NY from 1993-94. After completing 17 years with the Seneca County Facilities Department as Director of Facilities and Operations he retired from public service in 2010.

David was a life time member of the VFW Memorial Post #6433, a member of the SMS in Seneca Falls and served for ten years on the Seneca Falls Zoning Board. David devoted many years of fund raising and other acts of service for St. Patrick’s Church and other organizations. For many years he and his family were instrumental in planning and carrying out an annual Muscular Dystrophy Carnival that helped raise funds for the foundation.

David is survived by his wife Marilyn, three daughters, Beverly (Tony) Piscitelli, Seneca Falls, Kathy (Kevin) Hoover of Rochester and Dorie Giovannetti of Albany, N.Y., step children James H. White, Seneca Falls, David White, Chicago, Illinois and Susan (Chuck) Stevens, Westland Michigan. David is also survived by a brother, Jimmy (Beverly) Aldrich, Grand Bay Alabama, a sister Blanche (Chuck) Wheatley of Lakeland, Florida, eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. He is pre-deceased by his parents, James and Doris Aldrich and an infant son, David.

Arrangements are under the direction of Doran Funeral Home, Seneca Falls, NY.
