Obituary for Joan M. Capaldi (Baldassari)

Seneca Falls – Joan M. Capaldi, 78 of Haigh St., Seneca Falls, NY, passed away on Wednesday evening (June 21, 2017) at Geneva General Hospital, Geneva, NY with her husband, Bob, at her side.

Family and friends may call at the Doran Funeral Home, 4 E. Bayard St., Seneca Falls on Sunday (June 25) from 1 PM to 4 PM. Joan’s Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday (June 26) at 10 AM at St. Patrick’s Church, Seneca Falls, by Reverend James Fennessy, Pastor. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. If desired, contributions may be made to St. Francis/St. Clare Parish, 25 Center St., Waterloo, NY 13165 or House of John, 14 Spring St., Clifton Springs, NY 14432.

Joan was born in Seneca Falls on February 14, 1939 the daughter of the late James & Elsie Sorensen Baldassari. She was a life resident of Seneca Falls and a graduate of Auburn Community College where she earned her degree as a Registered Nurse. She had been employed as a registered nurse at Seneca Falls Hospital and later Newark Hospital in Newark, NY. She, also, had worked at the Seneca Falls Machine Shop, Farmer’s Home Administration in Auburn, NY and at the former Ann Didio’s Dress Shop of Seneca Falls. She was a member of St. Francis/St. Clare Parish of Seneca Falls and Waterloo. She was active, with her husband, Bob, in the S.M.S and Seneca Falls Elks Lodge, both of Seneca Falls, NY. Joan started the “Birthright Program” in Seneca Falls. She enjoyed writing children’s stories and often read them to the children in the local schools and at the local library. Joan was a good friend to many people, often paying them a visit and maybe even checking their blood pressure. Over the years, she had helped out with the Kindergarten program at the former St. Patrick’s School. Joan was a very special and passionate lady in her community.

She is survived by:
Her husband, Robert P. Capaldi of Seneca Falls, whom she married on September 13, 1958.
4 daughters – Debbie (Tim) Kaiser – Waterloo, NY
Donna Troutman – Seneca Falls, NY
Laurie (Mark) Augustyniak – Seneca Falls, NY
Mary Lou (Larry) Lang – Seneca Falls, NY
Her grandchildren – Matt & Melissa (Daniel Schuler) Kaiser, Jennifer (Chris) Nixon, Kyle Augustyniak, & Haley & Hannah Lang.
Her great grandchildren – Tyler & Will Nixon
2 sisters – Betty (Joe) Brainard – Baldwinsville, NY
Mary Lou (Craig) Anderson – Ft. Meyers, FL.
Her sisters-in- law – Rose Marie (Joe) Perdicho – Seneca Falls, NY
Arlene Herron – Seneca Falls, NY
Many nieces and nephews, including Roy Baldassari & Stephanie Gries.
In addition to her parents, Joan was predeceased by her granddaughter, Kelly Augustyniak, her son-in-law, David Troutman, 2 sisters, Helen Carpenter & Margaret Zona, & 4 brothers, George, Leo, & James Baldassari, & William Conley, & her brother-in-law, Richard Herron.
