Domenic "Carts" Caraccilo – (1933 – 2017)

Seneca Falls – Domenic “Carts” A. Caraccilo Jr., 84, of Bridge St., Seneca Falls, NY, passed away on Saturday (December 2, 2017) at the Palliative Care Unit at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, NY.

Family and friends may call at the Doran Funeral Home, 4 E. Bayard St., Seneca Falls, on Thursday (December 7) from 4 PM to 7 PM. Domenic’s Memorial Mass will be held on Friday (December 8) at 11 AM at St. Patrick’s Church, Seneca Falls, with Reverend James Fennessy, Pastor, as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Columbkille Cemetery, Seneca Falls. If desired, contributions may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of Strong Memorial Hospital, 601 Elwood Ave., Box 619-412, Rochester, NY 14642.

Domenic was born in Seneca Falls, NY on January 31, 1933 the son of the late Domenic & Teresa Antonio Caraccilo Sr. “Carts” was a lifelong resident of Seneca Falls and had served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was retired from Gould’s Pumps where he was employed for 25 years. Carts dedicated himself to both his family and the community. He coached both Junior Football and Little League Baseball and served as Town Councilman. He was a member of Kirk-Casey Post #366 American Legion, the S.M.S. and St. Patricks’ Church.

His life was highlighted with athletic achievements from his days at Mynderse Academy where he was a Varsity Athlete and Co-Captain of the Football and Baseball teams. He was voted most valuable player, elected to the Tri-County All Star Team and the Syracuse Herald All State Team for Football. As a member of the Varsity Baseball team, he helped to lead Mynderse to their first Section 5 Championship in the school’s history. In 2010, Domenic was inducted into the Mynderse Academy Hall of Fame for Football and Baseball.

Domenic attended Morrisville College graduating in 1954, where he again played both Football and Baseball earning him MVP status in both sports. He still holds two records for the School with over a .600 batting average and having never been struck out by an opposing pitcher. “Carts” was inducted into the Morrisville College Wall of Fame in 2000 for his amazing achievements.

Carts was an avid reader, loved watching football and baseball from his easy chair, especially the New York Yankees, enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, tending to his garden and always looked forward to a round of golf. One of many pleasures in his life was spending time with his four grandchildren.

Domenic is survived by his wife, Katherine “Kay” Caraccilo of Seneca Falls who he married on June 21, 1958, his four daughters, Kathy Caraccilo of Seneca Falls, NY, Carla (Mitchell) Rosenberg of Anna, Texas, Ann (Ronald) Kaplan of Montville, New Jersey and Nancy Caraccilo of New York City. His four grandchildren, Marsella Caraccilo, Christian Carello, Jonathan and Jacob Kaplan.

His brothers Vincent (Jan) Caraccilo of Seneca Falls, NY, Eugene Caraccilo of Ithaca, NY, Robert (Marie) Caraccilo of Seneca Falls, NY, sisters-in-law Mary Caraccilo of Seneca Falls, Mary Picarro of Waterloo, NY, brother-in-law Ernest Peck of Pennsylvania, and many nieces, nephews and his favorite four-legged friend, Zeus.

In addition to his parents, Domenic was predeceased by his brother, Frank Caraccilo, two sisters, Anna Peck & Domenica Giovannini, sister-in-law, Judy Caraccilo and brother-in-law, Geno Giovannini.
